Comprehensive sex education is based on-curriculum that gives students the knowledge, skills and values to make appropriate choices within their sex lives. The intention is to help prevent students from contracting STDs and STIs in the future. It is also set up in order to reduce the amount of unplanned pregnancies as well as lowering sexual violence.

Comprehensive sex education promotes sexual abstinence as the safest sexual choice for young people. However, teachers tend to teach students about topics that are connected to sexual activity, including the age of consent, safe sex, and contraception.
